ESOL I is an introductory course to English and Language Acquisition.
Course Syllabus:
Weeks 1 – 3 (Unit 1)
Welcome/Who Are We? Who are we as individuals? Who are we as a class? How can we learn more about one another?
Weeks 4 – 7 (Unit 2)
Community: What is a community? Who is in our community? What is in our
community?
Weeks 8 – 13 (Unit 3)
Well-Being: What contributes to our wellbeing? What do we need to feel safe, healthy, and cared for?
Weeks 14 – 19 (Unit 4)
Food/Nutrition: What is nutrition? What types of foods are good for us? How can we access nutritious foods?
Weeks 20 – 16 (Unit 5)
Civil Rights and Women’s Rights: What are civil rights? How have women fought for rights? How do we advocate for ourselves?
Weeks 27 – 33 (Unit 6)
Power: What is power? Who has power? How can and do people empower themselves?
Weeks 34 – 40 (Unit 7)
Truth: What is truth? How can we determine what is true and accurate? What is our responsibility for determining and telling the truth?
